About this essay writing course
Who will benefit from this course?
The course is suitable for undergraduate and postgraduate students who need to improve their writing and research skills for university, or those who are about to begin their university degree. Students of all academic writing backgrounds are welcome, regardless of their field of study and degree.
Course schedule
Week 1: Basics of Academic Writing, Writing for University, Essay Introductions
Week 2: Essay Structure and Planning
Week 3: Essay Structure and Planning Continued
Week 4: Critical Analysis and Writing the Essay Sections
Week 5: Critical Analysis and Interpretation of Evidence
Week 6: Essay Conclusions
Week 7: References and evaluating evidence
Week 8: Plagiarism and how to avoid it
The 8 weeks cover 5 individual units.
Each of the weekly sessions will be live streamed and will conclude with a brief, 15-minute Questions and Answers session.
The weekly sessions are interactive and the students will be invited to participate in reading and writing tasks.
Homework will be given for each week so students can practise. Homework feedback will be provided.
BONUS: Throughout the duration of the course students will have the opportunity to send one individual coursework (up to 2000 words) for a general review and feedback (usually £40 but included in your course fee - applies to the first 6 attendees who send this for review). Terms apply
Students will receive a copy of all handouts and PowerPoint slides.
